Issue Spotlight: Taxes!

John McCain's tax plan is to keep taxes low, simple and fair. Heavily taxing the middle class will only cripple the economy, and since the entrepreneur is the staple of America's economy, she wants to ensure that she does not stint their growth by overtaxing the middle class. To further support growth and development, McCain wants to maintain the research and development credits to allow for budding researchers to have the capital they need to make their innovations a reality. McCain has made a commitment to make sure America remains competitive in the world market and wants to form better economic relations through multilateral means in order to keep trade barriers low. On the same note, McCain wants to protect the American worker by ensuring that Americans have access to a good education in order to be able to be successful in the global economy. Finally, McCain wants America's taxpayers to have faith that their tax dollars are being spent wisely. She wants to do away with wasteful spending by eliminating pork barrel spending and earmarks- this spending is irresponsible and indefensible, and needs to be stopped.

Vote John McCain, and bring back the faith in the fact that that our tax dollars are going to good use!

MCCAIN TAKES THE LEAD IN THE “TWO-MAN” REPUBLICAN RACE

The Events of Last Week Predict that McCain will be the favorite on Super Tuesday

The Republican candidates are gearing up for Super Tuesday, eagerly anticipating the California primary. The golden state is particularly salient because of its 173 delegates; just fewer than 15% of the total number of delegates needed to win the Republican nomination. The situation has largely come down to a “two-man” race between John McCain and Mitt Romney.

Some are led to believe that since the California contest is reserved for registered Republicans McCain, as a candidate who attracts support from independent, will be put at a disadvantage. The events of the past week, however, paint an entirely different portrait and show Senator McCain to be the favorite. His winning Florida last week proves him capable of winning states with closed Republican contests. In this race, according to Cuban-American and Hispanic voters the immigration policies of McCain were preferable to those of Romney. On Thursday McCain had an NBC spot where he addressed the concerns of Latino voters in California. He also won the endorsements of Mayor Giuliani and Governor Schwarzenegger, which may hold sway. For now, McCain is ahead in the national polls at 43% and it remains to be seen what developments will take place tomorrow. This week McCain will touch on more of California’s concerns in an interview with a local paper: The Davis Enterprise.

MCCAIN UNDULY CRITICIZED FOR SUPPORTER’S COMMENT

Following the Event Monday Discussion of the “Bitch” Incident Continues in the Press

At a campaign event on Monday Senator McCain was asked, “How do we beat the bitch?” by one of his supporters, referencing Hilary Clinton. McCain, who responded by validating the question and without chastising the woman, was harshly criticized for his reaction following the incident. On Wednesday the Republican Senator explained himself saying, “I made light of the comment, and then I said very seriously I treated and continue to treat Senator Clinton with respect…I can’t dictate what people say that’s not my business.” McCain went on to explain that given the nature of the event, which took place at a restaurant and was attended by political adherents it would have been inappropriate to correct the woman. He was asked about the episode again Thursday at a UC Davis press conference. Afterwards, some wondered at the lack of real issues covered at the press event. The frenzy around the incident was considered a division from the other, more pressing concerns that ought to have been addressed.

Thursday's Press Conference- an Afterthought

Thursday's Press Conference went really well for Ms. McCain and her staff. One question we would like to address to you, the American people, is the "beat the bitch" question which came from Time Magazine. As you know, at a real McCain rally, a McCain supporter asked Mr. McCain about what it would take to "beat the bitch." McCain brushed off the comment, and reacted the way he did because he wanted to move on with the event.

As our own Ms. McCain stated, we cannot control nor dictate what people say. We, the McCain team of Sociology 118 and the real McCain team both respect Ms. Clinton and do not condone the that type of language or degradation. In fact, in real life Mr. McCain made it clear that he shares a very good relationship with Ms. Clinton and knows that her own campaign did not take the comment to heart.

Stay tuned for more news and updates! Looking forward to Florida's primary on Tuesday!

Interview of Fox News- By Clarisa

On January 22, 2008, Senator John McCain had an interview with Winnie from
Fox news. In this interview Senator McCain discussed his plan for the war
in Iraq. Part of his plan mentioned in the interview was that he would cut
back costs and promise success in Iraq. McCain plans to cut back costs by
allowing the military to be more in charge of itself instead of wasting
precious energies, monies and times on bureaucracy. He plans success in
Iraq by increasing the number of troops in order to eliminate insurgents
and stabilize the area. Unlike the current President, Senator McCain
promises his experience as a leader in the navy will allow him to plan more
strategically. In addition, he promises he will only enact his plan with
the support of the people. Ultimately Senator McCain vows that he will
represent what the people want.
